This year 22 school speed zone flashing beacons were installed by the Ada County Highway District and work is underway to install another 13 in the coming weeks. This latest effort covers street crossing locations at 27 different schools.

ACHD seeks public's help in developing Roadways to Bikeways Plan
There are 164 miles of on-street bicycle lanes in Ada County with 23 more planned for 2007. However, in many cases those bicycle lanes are not connected because there has never been a master plan for a county-wide bicycle system. The Ada County Highway District is now developing Roadways to Bikeways: ACHD’s Bicycle Master Plan for Ada County.

Report shows drivers now spend less time at red traffic signals in Meridian
Meridian—A network of 19 traffic signals in Meridian, including those in the downtown, now moves traffic faster and more efficiently. The retiming of traffic lights focused on four major travel corridors in Meridian: Meridian Road, Main Street, Cherry Lane/Fairview Avenue and Franklin Road.

Commission to hold special meeting on new Harris Ranch plan
The revised proposal to develop Harris Ranch will be the subject of a special Ada County Highway District Commission meeting on April 10, 2007. Commissioners, knowing that there is great public interest in the project and that Boise City is considering the development under its new Specific Area Plan ordinance, set the Tuesday meeting to consider the proposal. The regular Commission meetings occur on Wednesdays.

Day Drive at Vista to remain open
Garden City - Ada County Highway District Commissioners unanimously voted against a proposed closure of a short section of Day Drive in Boise that runs through the Vista Village shopping center. This after a Vista Village developer had proposed that Day Drive be closed permanently between Vista Avenue and Robert Street to improve pedestrian access to stores and to add a new building. ACHD’s traffic staff had also recommended vacating that part of Day Drive based on traffic safety and flow on Vista Avenue.

Commission to consider 5-year, $300 million building plan
Garden City - The ACHD Commission is seeking public input on the draft 2008-12 Five-Year Work Program, which will be considered for adoption at the February 28, 2007 meeting. The program is the Ada County Highway District's detailed outline for major capital improvement projects over the next several years. The document contains the planned concept, design and construction years for more than 100 projects that have a combined value of nearly $300 million.

Mule Deer Deaths at All-Time Low
Deer deaths caused by collisions along Warm Springs Avenue are at an al-time low for this time of year, according to numbers from the Idaho Department of Fish and Game. The Department of Fish and Game attributes ACHD's annual implementation of a reduced night time speed limit along the Warm Springs/Highway 21 corridor as one of the reasons for the decrease.

Franden continues to lead ACHD Commission
John S. Franden will be the president of the Ada County Highway District in 2007. The present is chosen annually by the commissioners to lead the District and to set the commission meeting agenda, among other duties. Franden was first elected as the commission's president in 2004 and will now serve as president for a fourth consecutive year.

Court nullifies Boise City action, says city should work collaboratively with ACHD
A Fourth District Court judge has ruled that Boise City overstepped its legal authority in trying to dictate how the Ada County Highway District builds roads. Judge Thomas F. Neville said Friday that the City Council violated Idaho law in July when it passed a Comprehensive Plan amendment to give the city veto power over roads decisions.
